I have had cats as pets, all my life.  They have been a great comfort to me.  When we get a pet, we tend to think that we’re rescuing them, doing them a favour by giving them a home etc.  But the truth is that a lot of the time they’re rescuing us.

Having a pet to care for brings out a nurturing side to us, pets make our houses feel lived in.  Returning home to a purring cat for example, fussing around our legs and nudging us, makes us forget about how busy/exhausting work was.   They provide a different focus and company.

Working from home can feel a bit lonely at times but having a cat in the office with you feels like a work mate.  That’s the thing about the cats I have owned; they have always wanted company.  I’m not sure whether it’s because they have often been rescue cats so relish company, or whether I’ve just been lucky, but they have never been aloof.

It’s because of this loyalty and companionship, that I like to ensure that when we’re away on holiday or just off for a weekend in our campervan, that they’re inconvenienced as little as possible.  Obviously, we’re not at home, so it will be different for them, but the point is that they get to stay at home.  This is why I have set up my cat sitting service. 

Cats do not need walking and they are not likely to upset the neighbours by barking.  They’re also unlikely to wreck the furniture whilst we’re away (although they have been known to knock the odd picture frame off a shelf), so they can be left at home, as long as they’re fed, watered, talked to and have their litter trays cleaned.

So when Christmas is over and you start planning next year’s adventures, you might be wondering about who can look after your cat/s.  You might even be thinking of rescuing a cat (there are lots of cats and kittens looking for homes at our local RSPCA).  The thing is you shouldn’t worry.  A good cat sitter will ensure your cat is looked after whilst you’re away, we’ll send you photos/videos so you can see what they’re getting up to.
