Like many people, I have had jobs in the past where I haven’t always felt appreciated. I’ve felt like I’ve worked hard but it’s gone un-noticed. However, I don’t feel like that with cat sitting. Although my clients, the cats, might seem a bit wary of me at first, as I’m not their owner. They are inevitably happy to see that I’m there, to ensure that they are cared for whilst their principal care givers are away.

Cats are quite independent but equally when they bond with humans, they often end up following them around. You’ll find them sitting on the desk when we’re working or sitting on the windowsill waiting for us to come home. So they will notice when we’re away. They might not like it at first but they are pretty adaptable and acknowledge that we’ve organised care for them. They will also be thankful that they’re experiencing as little upheaval as possible, if they’re allowed to stay in their own home.
Cats love their own neighbourhood and home. I’m sure we’ve all witnessed their curiosity when we’ve rearranged the furniture. So it makes sense to leave them were they feel most comfortable and where they can watch the world go by from their own den. I have always found that by the end of my cat sitting stint, the cats have accepted me and appreciate the time I spend with them.
